He earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice management from Concordia University-Wisconsin and a master's in business management from Indiana Wesleyan University. Prior to serving in the U.S. Congress, Carson worked in law enforcement. He also served on the Indianapolis City-County Council from 2007 to 2008.
