Van Duyne was the mayor of Irving, Texas, from 2011 to 2017 and a member of the Irving City Council from 2004 to 2010. Although municipal elections in Irving are officially nonpartisan, The Texas Tribune identified Van Duyne as a member of the Republican Party.
Van Duyne announced on February 16, 2017, that she would not run for re-election to a third term as mayor. On March 30, 2017, she announced that she would be joining the Trump administration. She was officially named a regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on May 8, 2017.
Beth Van Duyne lives in Irving, Texas. Van Duyne earned a B.A. in city/regional planning and government and law from Cornell University. Her career experience includes working as a consultant and as the regional administrator of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Southwest Region.
