Chellie Pingree, Representative from Maine's 1st District

Chellie Pingree (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Maine's 1st Congressional District. She assumed office on January 3, 2009. Her current term ends on January 3, 2025.

Pingree (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Maine's 1st Congressional District. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Pingree was first elected to Congress in 2008. Prior to joining Congress, she served in the Maine State Senate from 1992 to 2000. She served as Senate Majority Leader of the Maine State Senate from 1996 to 2000.

On her personal website, Pingree outlines two of her most important policy focuses: diversifying American agriculture and reducing national food waste. Pingree was a 2017 James Beard Foundation Leadership Award recipient based on her work on food policy issues.

Pingree was born on April 2, 1955, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She earned her B.A. from the College of the Atlantic in 1979 after having previously attended the University of Southern Maine in 1983. Prior to her political career, Pingree worked as a farmer and businesswoman in North Haven, Maine.
