Marilyn Strickland was born in Seoul, South Korea, and lives in Tacoma, Washington.Strickland earned a B.A. in sociology from the University of Washington and an M.B.A. from Clark-Atlanta University. She has served as the campaign chair of the United Way of Pierce County; as a trustee of the Tacoma Public Library and Annie Wright Schools; a board member of Grand Cinema; and a member of The Black Collective and the International Women's Forum.
