Krishnamoorthi was born in New Delhi, India, and immigrated to the U.S. as a child. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and public policy from Princeton University in 1995 and a law degree from Harvard University in 2000. Krishnamoorthi was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, a law firm, from 2000 to 2007 and president of Sivananthan Laboratories, a research and development company, from 2010 to 2017. He served as a policy director on Barack Obama's (D) U.S. Senate campaign in 2004 and, from 2007 to 2009, he was a deputy state treasurer.
