Trump’s tariffs just split the AI market in two
Trump’s tariff just split the AI market – among others – in two. One group of AI companies—the ones relying on cheap foreign hardware—just saw their costs shoot through the roof. For the other group of AI companies, they were just handed a massive competitive advantage. Make no mistake, AI as a whole is still a game-changer for the global economy. About Annaly Capital Management

Annaly Capital Management (NYSE:NLY) Inc. is one of the largest mortgage real estate investment trusts in the United States. The company is based in Maryland, with a principal office in New York City. Annaly primarily borrows money via short-term repurchase agreements and reinvests the proceeds in asset-backed securities.

Annaly is a mortgage real estate investment trust that earns profits from the difference between the interest it makes from its investments and the interest it pays on its borrowings, enhanced by leverage.

In 1997, Michael A.J. Farrell and Wellington Denahan established Annaly to capitalize on the burgeoning real estate sector.

In October 2012, Wellington Denahan assumed the CEO role; in 2013, Annaly acquired CreXus Investment for $996 million. In 2016, the firm completed the purchase of Hatteras Financial for $1.5 billion in cash and stock. In 2017, Annaly sold its Pingora servicing subsidiary, and in March 2020, David L. Finkelstein was appointed chief executive officer and board member. Later that year, Steven F. Campbell was named president of the company.

Annaly's investments are divided into four distinct groups: agency credit, residential credit, commercial credit and middle market lending. These investments include mortgage-backed securities, non-agency residential mortgage assets, mortgage servicing rights, residential mortgage loans, agency commercial mortgage-backed securities, corporate debts, credit risk transfer securities and other commercial real estate investments.

Annaly Capital Management Inc. has a strong track record of financial performance and is an S&P 400 component. Institutional investors and hedge funds own 52.80% of the company's stock, and EMG Holdings L.P., Bank of Montreal Canada, MetLife Investment Management LLC, Rhumbline Advisers, Yousif Capital Management LLC and CIBC World Market Inc. have all taken positions in Annaly Capital Management.
