Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight founded NIKE Inc., a multinational corporation that designs, develops, markets and sells athletic footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories globally, as Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964. 

The company officially changed its name to NIKE Inc. in 1971 and operates in four segments: North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific and Latin America (APLA). NIKE's product portfolio includes athletic and casual footwear, apparel and accessories under the Jumpman trademark, and casual sneakers and accessories under the Converse, Chuck Taylor, All-Star, One Star, Star Chevron and Jack Purcell trademarks. The company sells performance equipment and accessories for sports activities under the NIKE brand and markets apparel with licensed collegiate and professional team league logos. NIKE licenses unaffiliated parties to manufacture and sell apparel, digital devices, applications and other equipment for sports activities under NIKE-owned trademarks.

Retail channels selling NIKE products include footwear stores, athletic specialty stores, department stores, skate, tennis and golf shops and other retail accounts. NIKE operates its retail stores and digital platforms and works with independent distributors, licensees and sales representatives to distribute Nike products worldwide. 

The company is expanding its digital presence and e-commerce capabilities, accounting for more than 24% of its total revenue in 2022 (excluding the Jordan and Converse brands). NIKE's digital platforms and apps, including the Nike App and SNKRS, allow customers to purchase products, track their fitness goals and connect with other athletes.
